Tips To Make Computer Games Run Faster

If you’re using an old computer, running 3D computer games like Pro Evolution Soccer, God of War, Call of Duty 4 and the rest might be kind of slow due to high graphic requirements modern games come with. With many installations, useless Windows processes and lots of applications running in the background, CPU usage gets high and there’s a depletion of random access memory (RAM). To make computer games run faster, there are some basic things to do:

1. Reduce the game quality from the game settings

2. Adjust your video card settings and reduce the quality as well

3. Reduce screen resolution for the game

4. Close all running applications before starting a game

5. Stop unnecessary windows processes

6. Starting the game after a restart sometimes increases the speed

7. Install more memory. Increasing your RAM from just 1GB to 2GB or 4GB will make a major difference

8. Update your video card drivers

9. Change your video card if you have to. I recommend Nvidia over ATI though it isn’t bad either. Forget about Intel.

10. Check for malwares and update your antivirus. Running a registry cleaner too helps

The target speed for any game should be for the game to render one entire frame every time the monitor refreshes.

My favorite for your list is the reduction of video and sound quality of the game… I observed it has the best boost in the performance. :)

I totally agree with all of your tips above. Unfortunately, i think these tips, or at least, some of these tips just cannot be implemented to laptop because laptops’ GPU just cannot be upgraded, even though the memory can be crammed with more gigs of RAM. So if you want a gaming laptop, it’s recommended for you to get NVIDIA GeForce-armed laptop as this GPU is really advanced in PC gaming world and can handle almost all PC games perfectly, of course depends on the RAM requirement of the game itself.

I have an old mediocre Compaq laptop. It has ATI 7500 GPU and only 256MB of RAM (can be expanded for up to 1GB). And i can use it to play PES 2009, of course with low graphics setting. However, i don’t understand why after around 2 or 3 hours, the game becomes laggy. I believe my laptop’s GPU just can’t handle that game well and it’s forced to run the game.
