With the 10th anniversary of the iPhone almost here already, all eyes are set on the upcoming iPhone 8. Rumors have been coming in from all angles and we may already know what to expect later in the year when the phone is announced. Despite being just an incremental upgrade to the iPhone 6s, the iPhone 7 surprisingly stole the show last year and propelled Apple to overtake Samsung in terms of smartphone sales.
A lot has been said about the iPhone 8 (or possibly iPhone 7s, or even iPhone X), and we now have a conceptual design that encapsulates all these.
An all-glass iPhone
It has been rumored that the next iPhone may dump the unibody aluminum dEwing seen on recent iPhone models. The 10th year anniversary iPhone may be a throwback to the iPhone 4 with a glass back cover. The front and back glass panels may be held together with an aluminum frame according to leaks and rumors.
Wireless charging is in the works
For the first time too, we may finally have an iPhone that does wireless charging. This isn’t groundbreaking though, the feature has existed on Samsung devices for some years now. And it seems we are still going to see the same inductive wireless charging used by Apple Watch.
The possibility of an Iris scanner on the next iPhone for security is also imminent. This means along with Touch ID, users will have an extra measure to secure their devices.
The Apple Pencil has always been an exclusive accessory of the iPad Pro, but rumor has it that a version of the next iPhone targeted at professionals could also be able to use it. The next iPhone is said to come in three versions: a standard iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 8 Pro.
Curved OLED screen
For years, Samsung has shown that it knows its onions when it comes to curved displays. Apple is following Samsung’s lead, the next iPhone (or at least, one of the three models) is likely to come with a curged display. The rumor was given some credibility when it was reported by The Wall Street Journal.
Other rumored features
As iconic as the home button is, the iPhone may be on its way to lose it. As for the fingerprint unlock, Apple has already been granted a patent that lets the company embed a fingerprint sensor directly under the screen. The waterproof capability too might go from IP67 rating to IP68.
It has been suggested that the next iPhone will be a lot more expensive than previous models. It could cost more that $1,000.
